Director of Operations & vCIOLocation: Denver, CO

Position SummaryOur client, an established technology services organization, is seeking a Director of Operations & vCIO to lead its Denver-area operation. This is a senior leadership role combining business and operational ownership with strategic, client-facing technology leadership.
On the operations side, this individual will oversee the day-to-day performance of the local business, including financial performance, service delivery, team leadership, resource planning, and operational execution. The role carries direct accountability for revenue, margin, profitability, and overall business performance.
On the client side, this person will serve as a strategic technology advisor and executive relationship owner for key accounts. They will work closely with client leadership to understand organizational priorities, develop multi-year technology strategies and budgets, lead business reviews, and identify opportunities to improve technology environments through infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud, networking, and related solutions.
The ideal candidate has previously led an IT services operation, branch, location, or business unit and brings both P&L and people-leadership experience. They should also have strong client-facing credibility and the ability to operate comfortably with both technical teams and executive stakeholders.
Key ResponsibilitiesP&L & Business Operations
- Own financial performance for the local operation, including revenue, gross margin, operating expenses, profitability, annual budgets, and monthly forecasts
- Develop and execute the local operating plan in alignment with broader organizational goals and KPIs
- Monitor key operational metrics, including utilization, service levels, project delivery, client retention, and gross margin
- Identify and execute opportunities to improve operational efficiency, pricing, service delivery, and profitability
- Manage vendor and supplier relationships relevant to local operations
- Partner with centralized functions such as Finance, HR, and Marketing to ensure alignment with company standards, tools, and processes
- Drive continuous improvement and operational consistency across the organization
Team Leadership & People Management
- Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary team across service delivery, support, engineering, project management, and related functions
- Own hiring, onboarding, performance management, and workforce planning in partnership with HR
- Develop team leads and managers and build a strong leadership bench within the organization
- Foster a culture of accountability, technical excellence, collaboration, and client-focused service
- Lead regular team meetings, 1:1s, performance reviews, and employee development initiatives
- Participate in compensation planning and recommendations for direct reports
vCIO / Strategic Account Leadership
- Serve as a strategic technology advisor and executive point of contact for key client relationships
- Develop a deep understanding of each client’s business objectives, operational requirements, technology environment, and budget constraints
- Translate client goals into actionable multi-year technology roadmaps, priorities, and budgets
- Lead quarterly and periodic business and technology reviews with key accounts, presenting performance, risks, recommendations, and strategic initiatives
- Develop and present technology proposals and projects spanning cybersecurity, infrastructure, networking, cloud, and other IT initiatives
- Identify opportunities to expand relationships and introduce additional services or solutions within existing accounts
- Partner with sales and leadership on strategic new-business opportunities
- Serve as an escalation point for at-risk accounts, significant service issues, and major client incidents
Cross-Functional Leadership & Reporting
- Report on financial performance, operational metrics, account health, and team performance to senior leadership
- Participate in company-wide planning and leadership meetings as needed
- Champion organizational initiatives, standardized processes, and operational best practices within the local business
- Collaborate across functions to improve the client experience and overall performance of the organization
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of progressive leadership experience within the IT services, technology consulting, managed services, or a related technology services environment
- Previous responsibility for a P&L, branch, location, business unit, or comparable operation
- Experience in a vCIO, technology strategy, account leadership, or senior client-facing advisory capacity
- Proven experience managing and developing teams of 10+ employees
- Demonstrated ability to manage financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, revenue, margin, and profitability
- Experience supporting organizations with complex stakeholder, budgeting, procurement, compliance, or funding requirements is a plus
- Strong technical foundation across IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud, networking, and telecommunications
- Ability to communicate technical strategy and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities, develop solutions, present proposals, and contribute to revenue growth
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build credibility with senior executives and organizational leaders
- Strong organizational skills, ownership mentality, and ability to balance operational leadership with strategic client responsibilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or equivalent professional experience
- Relevant certifications such as PMP, ITIL, CompTIA, or security certifications are a plus
- Must be able to work full-time in-office in the Denver area, with local travel to client sites as needed
