Senior IT Systems Engineer (Azure Infrastructure) – Albany, NY Position Summary We are seeking a Senior IT Systems Engineer to join our infrastructure team in Albany, NY. This role is ideal for a seasoned infrastructure engineer with 7–10 years of enterprise systems experience and deep expertise in Microsoft Azure and hybrid cloud environments.
The ideal candidate will serve as a senior technical resource responsible for designing, implementing, administering, and optimizing enterprise infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments. While the role includes traditional infrastructure responsibilities such as virtualization, Windows Server administration, backup, and Citrix, Azure is the primary focus.
This individual will help drive cloud initiatives, modernize infrastructure, and collaborate with Architecture, Security, and IT teams to build highly available, scalable, and secure enterprise solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, administer, and optimize Microsoft Azure infrastructure and hybrid cloud environments.
- Serve as an Azure subject matter expert, driving cloud architecture, governance, security, automation, and operational best practices.
- Lead Azure migrations, cloud modernization initiatives, and infrastructure transformation projects.
- Administer Windows Server infrastructure, Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, MECM, and SCOM.
- Support VMware vSphere and ESXi environments supporting critical enterprise workloads.
- Administer Cisco HyperFlex and Cisco UCS infrastructure.
- Manage enterprise backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery solutions utilizing Cohesity.
- Administer Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops environments.
- Perform infrastructure lifecycle management including upgrades, patching, capacity planning, and performance optimization.
- Monitor infrastructure health, troubleshoot complex production issues, and provide root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with Security, Networking, Architecture, Application, and IT teams on enterprise infrastructure initiatives.
- Lead infrastructure projects while providing technical mentorship to junior engineers.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, standards, and operational procedures.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and business continuity initiatives.
- Coordinate with vendors, consultants, and distributed IT teams.
- Participate in an on-call rotation supporting production systems.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
- 7–10 years of enterprise infrastructure engineering experience.
- Extensive hands-on Microsoft Azure experience, including designing, implementing, and supporting Azure and hybrid cloud environments.
- Strong experience with Azure networking, virtual machines, storage, identity management, monitoring, governance, and security.
- 7+ years supporting Microsoft server technologies including Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, Group Policy, MECM, and SCOM.
- Strong VMware vSphere/ESXi administration experience.
- Experience supporting Cisco HyperFlex, Cisco UCS, or comparable converged infrastructure.
- Experience administering enterprise backup solutions such as Cohesity.
- Experience supporting Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops.
- Strong understanding of enterprise server, storage, virtualization, networking, and cloud technologies.
- Proven experience leading infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and modernization initiatives.
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience working within large enterprise environments.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
- Ability to participate in an on-call rotation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Azure certifications (Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect, Azure Security Engineer, etc.).
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP).
- CCNA or equivalent networking certification.
- Cohesity certification or equivalent enterprise backup experience.
- Citrix certifications or advanced administration experience.
- Experience supporting hybrid cloud architectures in global enterprise environments.
- Experience supporting manufacturing or semiconductor organizations.
- Project management experience or PMP certification.
- Understanding of enterprise application and systems architecture.
- Experience integrating on-premises infrastructure with cloud and SaaS platforms.
- Japanese language skills are a plus.
