The HT Group has partnered with a growing law firm in West Houston in the search for a qualified Director of Finance & Accounting with previous law firm experience.
Location: West Houston (onsite 5 days/week)
Compensation: $185,000 – $195,000 base + bonus/solid benefits
Position Overview
This individual will be the most high-ranking finance/accounting role in the firm and is responsible for leading all accounting operations, financial reporting, cash flow management, and performance analysis. This role partners closely with senior leadership to drive financial strategy, support decision-making, and ensure operational efficiency. The position oversees billing and accounting functions, manages external relationships, and builds scalable processes while developing a high-performing finance team.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Operations
- Oversee accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, billing, and collections
- Manage firm-wide cash flow, liquidity, and banking relationships
- Administer partner distributions and financial policies
- Ensure strong internal controls, compliance, and risk management
Reporting, Planning & Analysis
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning
- Deliver financial reporting, profitability analysis, and performance insights to leadership
- Establish and track KPIs related to production, billing, and collections
- Provide actionable recommendations to improve financial performance
Billing, Collections & Revenue Cycle
- Oversee timekeeping, billing accuracy, and collections strategy
- Optimize cash realization and reduce aged receivables
- Ensure compliance with billing policies and client requirements
Audit, Tax & External Relationships
- Serve as primary liaison with external accountants for audits, tax filings, and financial reviews
- Oversee insurance programs and risk coverage
- Manage relationships with banks, advisors, and key vendors
Team Leadership & Process Improvement
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting and billing team
- Implement scalable systems, processes, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Partner cross-functionally with leadership and stakeholders across the organization
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (advanced degree preferred)
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience within a professional services environment (law firm experience highly preferred)
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management
- Experience overseeing billing and collections processes
- Proven leadership and team development experience
