Controller
Location: Remote – United States (Eastern or Central Standard Time Zone Residents Preferred)
Compensation: $140,000 Base Salary + 10% Annual Bonus

About the Opportunity
The HT Group has partnered with a trusted client in the distribution sector seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the accounting function for a growing organization and help strengthen the financial processes, controls, and reporting needed to support continued expansion.
Reporting directly to the CEO, this highly visible role will take ownership of accounting accuracy, monthly close, cash-flow management, working-capital reporting, inventory accounting, and financial controls. The Controller will also play an important role in transitioning selected accounting responsibilities from external providers to an internally managed structure. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong accounting leader who enjoys improving processes, building structure, and providing executive leadership with reliable financial insight.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day accounting function and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
- Own the monthly close process and drive improvements in close timing and reporting quality.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, management reporting packages, and supporting analysis.
- Manage cash-flow forecasting, including a rolling 13-week cash-flow model.
- Oversee inventory accounting, COGS recognition, purchasing accruals, and period-end cutoffs.
- Prepare borrowing-base certificates and other lender-required reporting.
- Provide weekly reporting to support working-capital and capital-allocation decisions.
- Partner with the CEO to explain financial performance, identify risks, and support lender and investor communications.
- Strengthen accounting policies, reconciliations, documentation, controls, and reporting consistency.
- Manage internal accounting resources and oversee outsourced accounting or operational service providers.
- Partner with sales, supply chain, and operations to improve financial visibility across the business.
- Support the transition from QuickBooks Online to NetSuite or another scalable ERP platform.
- Assist with audits, tax requirements, lender relationships, and private equity reporting as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Strong technical accounting foundation with experience independently managing a complete accounting function.
- Experience with inventory accounting, COGS, working capital, and month-end close required.
- Demonstrated experience building and maintaining 13-week cash-flow forecasts.
- Experience preparing borrowing-base certificates and lender reporting.
- Background within an inventory-intensive, distribution, consumer products, import, or similar operating environment.
- Experience managing internal accounting resources and outsourced service providers.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online.
- NetSuite or other ERP implementation experience strongly preferred.
- CPA preferred but not required.
- Private equity-backed company experience preferred.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-growing, remote, and evolving environment.
