SAP FICO Functional Business Analyst
Location: Austin, TX – Hybrid, 3 days onsite near downtown
Our client is seeking an experienced SAP FICO Functional Business Analyst to serve as a key liaison between IT and the Finance organization within an established SAP S/4HANA environment.
This is not a traditional SAP Developer or highly technical configuration role. The ideal candidate will bring strong functional SAP FICO knowledge, an understanding of complex Finance and Accounting processes, and the confidence and credibility to serve as a trusted advisor to the business.
This individual will work closely alongside the Finance team, developing a deep understanding of their day-to-day processes and identifying activities that should be owned or supported by IT. A major focus will be supporting the organization’s complex month-end close process, helping transition appropriate responsibilities from Finance to IT, and creating greater confidence that IT can effectively own and support these processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted SAP FICO functional advisor and business partner to the Finance and Accounting organization.
- Work closely with Finance stakeholders to understand complex financial processes, workflows, challenges, and system dependencies.
- Provide functional support for SAP FICO within an S/4HANA environment, with particular emphasis on month-end close and ongoing Finance operations.
- Develop a detailed understanding of the current month-end close process, including recurring issues, manual activities, dependencies, and reactionary support needs.
- Identify Finance activities that are more appropriately owned by IT and help transition those responsibilities to the appropriate technology resources.
- Act as a liaison between Finance and technical IT teams, translating business needs and challenges into clear functional and technical requirements.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, system utilization, and the overall partnership between Finance and IT.
- Provide visibility into issues and activities occurring during month-end close and help drive more consistent, proactive support from IT.
- Troubleshoot functional SAP FICO issues and coordinate with technical resources when development, configuration, or deeper technical expertise is required.
- Build strong relationships and credibility with Finance stakeholders through effective communication, follow-through, and a strong understanding of their business.
- Help establish clear ownership and accountability between Finance and IT for SAP-related processes and support.
Key Qualifications
- Strong functional experience with SAP FICO, preferably within an SAP S/4HANA environment.
- Strong understanding of Finance and Accounting processes, including month-end close.
- Experience working in complex Finance environments with multiple processes, dependencies, and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to serve as a business-facing functional consultant, analyst, or advisor, rather than solely executing technical requirements.
- Ability to understand Finance processes and determine where technology and IT ownership can improve efficiency and support.
- Strong business analysis skills, including requirements gathering, process analysis, documentation, and translating business needs for technical teams.
- Ability to troubleshoot SAP FICO issues from a functional perspective and effectively engage technical resources when necessary.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to work directly with Finance leadership and business users.
- Ability to establish credibility, ask thoughtful questions, challenge processes when appropriate, and provide recommendations rather than simply taking direction.
- Must be able to work onsite 3 days per week near downtown Austin.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role goes beyond resolving SAP tickets or executing requests. This person will become a trusted extension of the Finance organization while representing IT within the business.
The right individual will understand how Finance operates, anticipate needs, bring structure to recurring SAP and month-end close activities, and help clearly define what should be owned by Finance versus IT. Over time, the Finance team should have greater confidence that IT understands their processes and can reliably manage the technology-related responsibilities that support them.
