Lead R&D Engineer – Virginia

Our client is looking for a Lead R&D Electrical Engineer. This position is located near Richmond, Virginia.

Your responsibilities

  • Position includes both design and team lead responsibilities for the Electrical Team
  • Fully supports system and hardware design and validation from cradle to grave
  • Performs a variety of complex technology and engineering assignments using advanced and innovative techniques
  • Creates technical design specifications and designs power and electronic subsystems for mission critical power protection applications
  • Acts as project leader and senior project member on new product development projects
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on projects, providing guidance to team members, acting as a mentor and sharing lessons learned
  • Ensures quality designs and solutions from the electrical team
  • Effectively communicates complex technical solutions and concepts to engineers and non-engineers
  • Provides leadership, mentoring, coaching and support to electrical team members
  • Contributes to the development of strategic innovation and technology plans
  • Develops project intellectual property strategies, strategic invention disclosures and secures patents for the Power Protection organization

Your background

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required
  • 8+ years of experience in electrical design required
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) or equivalent
  • 6+ years of experience with electronics or power electronics design
  • 2+ years’ experience as engineering lead of a department or electrical engineering team
  • Experience leading projects and team members
  • Experience with wide-bandgap (WBG) switching device knowledge, simulation and application
  • Knowledge in environmental, reliability, and safety requirements for Commercial & Industrial applications
  • Experience with low voltage power semiconductor selection (IGBTs, MOSFET’s, and Diodes), gate drive and protection circuit simulation and design
  • Strong knowledge of ECN’s, BOM’s, product documentation systems, AutoCAD, Altium, dFMEA and HALT
  • Solid understanding of theory and application of magnetics utilized for power conversion
  • Excellent lab skills and problem-solving ability
