InnoTech Impressions from HT Recruiters

By Mark Turpin, CEO, HT Staffing

InnoTech is circled in red on HT Staffing Technical’s calendar; we exhibit at both the Austin and San Antonio events each year. As tech recruiters in Central Texas, we wouldn’t miss the region’s largest business technology conference!

Changes 2012 brought to InnoTech Austin included the First Annual Women of IT Summit and a new IT security track. The conference also featured a keynote address from GM’s Timothy Cox about the company’s new Austin-based IT Innovation Center, a full slate of educational seminars, the eMarketing Summit, the Beta Summit (showcasing five startups) and the Austin CIO Summit, and IT Executive Awards.

We didn’t see any of it.

One of only three job placement agencies on the conference roster, we spent the day in the exhibit hall. We’re pretty sure every single person on the exhibitors’ floor visited our booth—they followed their noses to our freshly-popped popcorn! Our team was on hand to talk with clients, prospective clients and others in the tech community who may need our help with technical recruiting, temporary staffing or executive search.

Once again, we were reminded of the importance of networking in person. We spoke with InnoTech Executive Director Sean Lowery, who echoed this thought saying, “Despite the prominence of social media, the opportunity to meet face-to-face is essential to building solid business relationships.”

We asked Lowery what stood out at InnoTech Austin in 2012. He said, “From a conference standpoint, security, mobility and innovation were the hottest topics this year, and we see this going forward in 2013.”

About the event’s trajectory in our region he added, “Year after year, we see our events grow in Texas. This isn’t always the case in other parts of the country. Central Texas’ technology community continues to grow. I think one reason Austin stays on the tech map is that people work together; it’s a collaborative culture.”

Lowery went on to express his appreciation for Central Texas’ involvement with InnoTech and ongoing support of the event.

At HT Staffing Technical, we’re excited about the opportunities we had at InnoTech—and the Door64 after-party—to reconnect with many of our clients, to meet a multitude of tech-involved professionals and to deepen our involvement in Central Texas’ vibrant technology scene.

HT Staffing Technical is the technical recruiting arm of HT Staffing. We are a total-solution staffing firm that provides custom-tailored staffing strategies through three specialized divisions: HT Staffing, HT Staffing Professional and HT Staffing Technical.

It’s gratifying to play a part in Central Texas’ InnoTech conferences. We look forward to seeing how InnoTech Austin and InnoTech San Antonio evolve in 2013 and the years beyond.
